GMNP Update - March 21, 2025

Dear GMNP Members,
This week was busy and had no shortage of drama. On Monday, the newest member of the House, Rep. David Gottfried, was sworn in, restoring the chamber's 67-67 split. And on Thursday, former Senator from Grand Rapids Justin Eichorn resigned following his arrest. The Governor has not scheduled a special election to fill Eichorn's vacant Senate seat, so the legislature is back to 200 members once again.
You'll see committee agendas heating up next week as the push to meet bill deadlines intensifies, and there may be some evening hearings scheduled throughout the week too.
The Governor also released his revised budget on Friday. He recommended cuts in a number of key DEED programs, including:

- HF1709 (Frederick) Greater Minnesota Housing Infrastructure program funding provided, bonds issued, and money appropriated.
- HF2148 (Agbaje) Locally controlled housing fund established, report required, and money appropriated.
It's probable that the "Say Yes to Housing" package of bills will be heard in the State and Local Government/Government Operations committees next week, possibly on Wednesday. Additional hearings are likely to be posted throughout the week.

- S.F. 1512 (Putnam), $20M for Workforce Housing Development program. Hearing 2/20 in Senate Housing, laid over.
